The Golden Rule Wins in California Politics!

California just voted for open primary elections instead of party primaries.

This means that all citizens are included in the selection of representatives to government.

This is great news for America and the world as it opens the door to eliminate partisan politics in our national agenda.

You can help in an effort for all states to follow California's lead by signing (online) this petition to President Obama to encourage similar legislation for the benefit of all Americans.

Follow this link to read and sign the petition. (also to print it and engage your neighbors to sign by going door to door)

Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

(Meaning it is the LAW OF GOD and sums up ALL the [legitimate] TEACHINGS OF THE PROPHETS)

One of my favorite songs and a powerful influence on the development of my life perspective comes from the LDS hymnbook (they didn't write the lyrics, just adopted them).

When I was a teenager and young adult this hymn was sung (with fervor) nearly every Sunday in church. Sadly it is seldom used any more.

Do What Is Right,” Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, no. 237

Resolutely

1. Do what is right; the day-dawn is breaking,
Hailing a future of freedom and light.
Angels above us are silent notes taking
Of ev’ry action; then do what is right!

[Chorus]
Do what is right; let the consequence follow.
Battle for freedom in spirit and might;
And with stout hearts look ye forth till tomorrow.
God will protect you; then do what is right!

2. Do what is right; the shackles are falling.
Chains of the bondsmen no longer are bright;
Lightened by hope, soon they’ll cease to be galling.
Truth goeth onward; then do what is right!

3. Do what is right; be faithful and fearless.
Onward, press onward, the goal is in sight.
Eyes that are wet now, ere long will be tearless.
Blessings await you in doing what’s right!

Text: Anon., The Psalms of Life, Boston, 1857

Because of this hymn, I adopted early in life the personal credo "Do what's right - fuck the consequences".

"What is Right" is dictated by the "Royal Law". James 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

Do what is right; let the consequence follow.
Battle for freedom in spirit and might;
God will protect you; then do what is right!
