Habeas Vote Today: Call Now

CALL NOW!

If you want to restore habeas corpus, you need to act now. The Senate will vote today on an amendment to restore habeas corpus when they vote on the Defense Department Authorization bill.

Call now to restore habeas corpus and end rampant spying on Americans!

Dear Friends,

If you want to restore habeas corpus, you need to act now. The Senate will vote today on an amendment to restore habeas corpus when they vote on the Defense Department Authorization bill.

Call Now: Tell Congress to restore habeas corpus and end rampant spying on Americans.

Once you’ve called, keep it up because there’s more: The House of Representatives could vote on a habeas restoration bill sponsored by House Armed Service Committee Chairman Ike Skelton within the next couple weeks if we keep the pressure on.

Tell Congress to end rampant spying and restore habeas corpus.

On the NSA front, Congress has a packed hearing schedule this week and next. In a hearing yesterday, Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell made the outrageous claim that warrantless spying on Americans hadn’t happened. Then, he quickly retracted his blatantly false statement. McConnell also lied in an earlier hearing when he claimed that the new so-called “Protect America Act” was responsible for exposing a German terror cell. In fact, all the information the government needed was available — under the old law. These lies were exposed when Members of Congress asked McConnell difficult questions under oath. Your phone calls will make sure our Members of Congress keep demanding answers, and don’t weasel out when it’s time for a difficult vote.

At best, this Congress has been a silent partner as the Bush administration has run roughshod over the Constitution. And at worst, Congress has greased the wheels for further abuse. But that doesn’t mean we can remain silent. It means we have to fight harder than ever.

Our Don’t Fail Freedom petition — which we delivered yesterday with over 50,000 signatures — calls on congressional leaders to stop the Bush Administration from hijacking Constitutional values.

Your calls will magnify that message and ensure every Member of Congress hears how critical it is to restore the Constitution. And you’ll be joined by over a million activists who are calling Congress this week on behalf of dozens of organizations demanding that Congress restore habeas and fix the FISA mistake.

Tell Congress: No One is Above the Law and No One is Outside the Law.

Thank you for standing up for the Constitution and the America we all believe in.

Sincerely,

P.S. We’re watching how Members of Congress vote on these critical bills to see who’s for restoring the Constitution and who’s not. You’ll be hearing about a new campaign next week to hold them accountable. But right now, it’s critical to call. Call Congress today.
