From two great shows by Rachel Maddow this week. I consider these "Must Viewing" for everyone regardless of political bent.
Anyone who has been reading my blog for awhile will know that I am blown away by the idea that anyone takes Mitt Romney seriously - just type Romney into the search engine on this page.
Not only is he a perfect example of what is wrong in the GOP (as are some of his competition in the party), he also is a perfect example of a lot of what is wrong with Mormonism, which - including the official and historical Mormon concepts of "Lying for the Lord" (late 1800's to present) and "When the Brethren Have Spoken, The Thinking Has Been Done" (late 1900's), which he certainly would be unable to avoid taking into governance of any kind. He is a TOOL in the most relevant sense.
I wish the secret (not so secret really) take-over of the GOP (and the Boy Scouts) -started in the 60's by the Mormon Church and taking speed in the 70's with the church's trick to establish quasi-public political organisations (when they got busted for worldwide use of the pulpit for partisan purposes, and their tax status - especially for racial bias at the church's Brigham Young University) would be a subject of one of Rachel's shows. I think she would do a great job of it.
This week she expertly and thoroghly took Mitt and the GOP to task in a very well deserved fashion.
You've got to watch these segments! I mean...YOU REALLY HAVE GOT TO WATCH THESE! (all caps means I REALLY mean it)
From Wednesday night's show
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#46814073 Romney's etch-a-sketch story - dishonesty and anti-Americanism
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#46816690 GOP Culture War
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#46816729 Maddow's new book chronicling USA's poor control of Nuclear Bombs, some dropped on Spain - You'd think we would have heard about this before!
I want to read it. You should too. Even Ron Paul and Fox News are recommending it!!!!!!
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#46816729 Texas Senator FIREBOMBED for supporting Woman's Health
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#46816773 Florida's "Kill Anyone Who Worries You" Law. Mentally Ill Murderer allowed to Kill teenager with impunity.
It is obvious that Liberals are going to use this horror as an argument for gun control. It seems this law has some serious flaws and it should be reformed, but the issues that caused it to be established are valid.
I think the real problem is that someone who was a known danger due to obvious mental issues was not given the help they needed, even though anyone familiar with his history of constantly calling the police in the manner he did would conclude that he was nothing but a ticking time bomb - which finally went off.
I think this was primarily due to Ronald Reagan's defunding of Community Mental Health services and facilities during his presidency, which literally dumped hundreds of thousands of the mentally ill onto the streets (creating the HOMELESS) with no social support and the govt. allowing that sick and sad condition to contiue to present. The ambivalence and scorn heaped upon people with health problems from that time to this is reprehensible and inexcusable.
Thursday night's show
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#46829675 More on Mitt Romney's propensity for non-stop lying.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#46827122 More on Republican attacks on Women and Medicare
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#46829789 GOP WAR on Science and Women's health with Bush era Surgeon General
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#46829789 GOP/Santorum abuse of religion and lies about "War on Religion" with Rev. Welton Gaddy, President of the Interfaith Alliance.
I hope you watched and appreciated these segments. It is a "bitter pill" for all of us - but one we must swallow. We have to take the blinders off and refuse to allow all these violations of American and Religious ethics to continue.
And as for Rachel Maddow. There is a link to her show page in the right column. You can find her blog here. http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/ I recommend it.
